First Employment Kiosk At Bukit Bintang Plaza Opens On May 2

17 May 2007, Bernama

MACHANG, May 17 (Bernama) -- The first employment kiosk at the Bukit Bintang Plaza in Kuala Lumpur will open next Thursday, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn said today.

He said similar kiosks would also be opened in Johor Baharu, Sabah and Sarawak before they are extended nationwide.

Opening of employment kiosks at places frequented by the public like at shopping complexes was an innovative approach adopted by his ministry to provide an efficient employment service for job-seekers, he said.

Dr Fong said his ministry would also promote the electronic Employment Labour Exchange for the unemployed to register themselves.

The exchange would source for jobs electronically, he told reporters after opening the 2007 Kelantan employment carnival. The two-day carnival offers 1,148 jobs in various sectors.

Fong urged employers to make use of the exchange to find workers to suit their operations.

He said 84,052 job-seekers from diverse academic background registered for the 43,741 vacancies posted on the exchange last year.

Employers and job-seekers can surf the exchange at www.elx.gov.my, he said.

Fong also said his ministry had set up a centre in Johor Baharu to assist overseas-bound Malaysians in search of jobs.

Spurred by the country's buoyant economy, the manpower demand for the various economic sectors was expected to rise, he added.
