The Phoenix Platform is a cost-effective development platform for companies to jump start development to deliver applications for Voice Over IP, WiMAX CPE, 3G Routers and Optical Network Terminals. It integrates multiple WiMAX, WiFi, Fibre, ZigBee, BlueTooth, VoIP and 3G HSDPA technologies on a single board with industry standard interfaces. It is interoperable with multiple vendors and shortens development cycle time by six- eight months.

Product Innovation

The Phoenix Platform is built with Embedded Linux and Advanced MPC8315E processor and Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCI Express) interfaces to bridge multiple technologies. Major communication technologies are converging towards PCI based applications which are scalable for greater bandwidth and design compatible with existing Operating Systems and PCI device drivers.

Open Source Community

In tandem with the industry's trend towards open source models, the Linux development community is delivering a maturing ecosystem of applications, protocols and making available device drivers, network interface card and parallel/serial port drivers. This is a major advantage for using Embedded Linux over commercial real-time operating system (RTOS).

Modular Design for Clear Migration Path

The Phoenix Platform's modular design is upgradable with future technology migration and facilitates ubiquitous application of solutions. This high level network processor is also a more cost effective solution compared to real time operating systems.

Scalability

Linux enjoys greater scalability as it is designed for embedded Internet devices and supports multiprocessor systems. Designers can run this real-time application on a dual processor system, increasing total processing power.

Future Applications

We have identified future expansion into Long Term Evolution. LTE a natural upgrade path for 3G networks and is designed as an evolutionary upgrade to an existing network without building a completely new system. It combines the benefits of IP-based fixed networks with the benefits of mobility. Other identified areas include Fibre, an instant solution for last mile broadband wireless in areas without fibre outlay; as well as IPTV, Media Servers for Home, Set Top Boxes, Femto Cells and Optical Network Terminals.
